Email from Councilman Frank Perrotto

For anyone curious, Councilman Perrotto is up for re-election on April 5.
Upon receiving this email, I gave Councilman Perrotto 5 minutes to apologize before I post his email on the internet. Since he did not, here it is.



"Councilman Yuri, 



I went to your web site and I was appalled.

How dare you conduct yourself, as representative of this Council, by continuing to flaunt your partisan ideologies.

You walk out before the Governor gave his speech as a form of protest. You are disgrace to this council.
You claim you are representing the people. That is nonsense! What about all the people of Janesville who support the Governor.  How are you representing them with this despicable behavior?

You should publicly apologize to the citizens of Janesville for your behavior!
Moreover you should repay the city for the cost of the taxpayers dollars that were use to send you to this dinner.

I heard you even joined the protestors after you left....Not even you would be that stupid!

Your actions on the steps of the Courthouse were outrageous. You used your position as a City Councilman to speak against the republicans actions concerning the budget.  All under the guise that you represent and speak for the people of Janesville...NONSENSE. You jeopardized the city , its citizens and this council. We need to work with both sides of the legisative body in Madison . Not just your Democrat brothers and sisters.  What were you thinking?

Maybe it's time for you to reassess why you are on the City Council"

UPDATE #2: I went ahead and paid Forward Janesville $55 for my ticket.  I believe strongly that Councilmember Perrotto should do the same.

    Thank you for representing me, my families, Janesville teachers, nurses, firemen, police officers, steel workers, construction workers, city employees, and thousands of other hard working citizens, Yuri! And, thank you, Perrotto, for clarifying in no uncertain terms exactly where YOU stand as well.

  6. I encouraged Yuri to follow his conscience. I applaud him for having the guts to do so - I am sure there were others in that room that stayed, "just to be polite", those that didn't want to be there, or didn't want to get fired from their job.

    The City Council is supposedly non-partisan, so why should a supposed non-partisan council be required to sit through a very partisan speech? Why would Forward Janesville, a supposedly non-partisan business group host a very controversial and partisan Governor that has divided our State like no other? Why should anyone give respect to someone that has been so incredibly disrespectful to the people of our State that do most of the working and paying and living and dying?

    Just because you agree with Walker, Frank, does not mean that the residents of the City do - Rock County voted in favor of Barrett, not Walker. While you, may have chosen to listen to the Governor's speech, which is your right as an individual, Yuri decided that he wasn't interested, which is his right as an individual. This should be celebrated - not demonized. For better or worst, this is what democracy looks like!

    Your email is very condescending and insulting to your fellow Councilperson who felt that he was representing the people of Janesville. You call him stupid. I hardly think that Yuri walked out without putting much thought into the repercussions of his actions. The manner in which he decided to protest, in fact, was pretty smart, polite and respectful. He could have stood on the table with a bullhorn. Just because you don't agree with him - doesn't mean that you are right, or that you have the authority to scold him.

    As a parent with kids in school, I am sick about the cuts our district is facing. As an environmentalist, I am saddened by the decisions Walker is making that will affect our local environment - including recycling programs and farmland preservation - which I have worked tirelessly for years to promote.

    All across history, atrocities have occurred because people didn't want to get involved, or they didn't want to be impolite. It is our right - our duty as citizens of the USA to fight for what we believe in. To question our leaders.

    From the Declaration of Independence -"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

    I disagree with everything you said and, especially, with the way you said it: rude, insulting, patronizing, disrespectful. You may have intended only to demonstrate your anger. Instead you revealed a genuine dislike and lack of respect for the person, not the action. And that says much more about your lack of character than it does about his actions.

    Your colleague put forth his reasoning in a thoughtful manner, and he deserves an equally thoughtful and respectful response from anyone who disagrees with him. I hope you will learn to treat people with more respect in the future, whether they work with you or not and whether you agree with them or not.

  10. What a hypocrite. On one hand admonishing you, yet applauding the Gov. on the other. Find me a truly non-partisan anything, anywhere. Go ahead, I'll wait. Mr. Perrotto has shown his colors. Big surprise.

    You have now lost two votes. I will not be voting for you on April 5th. I agree 100% with everything Mary above stated. Yuri is a great politician and you could learn a lot from him. Unlike many of you, Yuri takes the time to ask us, the general public, for our opinion before he goes into a vote for the city counsel. Yuri is kind, compassionate, fair, rational, and represents the public that elected him. He is a true politician and a great one at that. Yuri takes the time to know his public as all politicians should do.
    I really think you, Mr. Perrotto, should reconsider your position on the city counsel seeing as you find these values appaulling. You my friend, are not proper politician material. Your behavior in the e-mail demonstrates immaturity, lack of professionalism, and poor manors. You are suppose to be a role model and demonstrate the highest of personal characteristics. Your e-mail demonstrates none. I feel that you owe Yuri an apology. You also need to apologize to the general public for your poor role modeling skills.
    I wish you the best in your future endeavors, however I hope they do not include politics.

    After reading this e-mail, I, a Janesville voting citizen, will not be voting for you on April 5th. You have just lost a vote. I will also pass this information to my family and friends, and I am sure they will not vote for you either.

Meanwhile Perotto's own party tries to ram through a hyper-partisan Walker bill with minimal public review, no concessions to Dem counterparts, broken open meeting laws, and broken court-orders. The hypocrisy is stunning.

  18. I'm sorry Mr. Perrotto, but maybe it's time for YOU to reassess why YOU'RE on this council. I don't know about the rest of my fellow citizens, but I would certainly like my City Council members to be able to spell correctly. And, sir, after Tuesday's protest... I'm not sure how many people in Janesville support the Governator... Oh I'm sorry, I mean the Governor. I believe what Yuri did was a step in the right direction, by showing us that he knows what we care about. You say that Yuri shouldn't just be looking at what his fellow Democrats want, but also what the Republicans want. Usually, I would agree with you on that matter, except for the simple fact that we are not being shown the same respect right now, by you, the Governor, or quite frankly anyone who supports him. So I'd like to applaud Yuri on his actions.
