Last night six districts, that are traditionally red, voted in recall elections. In order to turn the State Senate Democrats needed to flip three of them. They only turned two. What we need to take away from this is not that the Democrats came up short but that firmly red districts tilted blue. Losing these races by as small of margins that they did shows that the agenda held by Republicans is starting to wear on conservatives. Democrats must look to build on this as we move to the 2012 elections which should include a recall election for Governor Walker.
Wisconsin will be a huge battleground next year and both sides are energized and the money is flowing heavily. To use a quote from the late liberal lion Ted Kennedy: "the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die." As long as the disparity between those with the most and the rest of us continues to grow we must not lose sight of the American dream and fight for a chance at it.
