A Response to Rep. Knilans Form Email

Representative Knilans,

It is quite apparent that you do not understand insurance either. The insurance limits of $50/100/15 was actually a good number and for mandatory insurance for people to be on the road. Personally I believe the property damage should have been $50,000 and not $15,000. Good God man, a new Suburban costs at least $50K and how much is a loaded semi worth? Lowering limits back to $25/50/10 is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

If you’re going to vote on a bill at least talk with someone who knows something about insurance and I doubt many of your party gives a damn about those who might need it anyway.

Governor Doyle and the last legislative group went too far; but not with the liability limits. It was with definitions of Uninsured Motorist and Underinsured Motorist and stacking. That is where the insurance companies went crazy and the rates jumped in this category due to the stacking definitions.

The Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist coverage contained within Personal Umbrella policies were also affected adversely. The last legislators with the $10,000 mandatory Medical Expense Coverage limits and the stacking capability with the $10,000 Medical Coverage as well was simply far too much. When I was active in the insurance business I recommended higher limits then these and Personal Umbrella Limits generally above $1,000,000 as well.

By reducing coverage to these obscenely low limits you put people into a false sense of security. You are probably not aware that the insurance coverage is just a beginning. If you were to cause someone a lifetime injury; do you actually believe that the other party would settle for just the insurance limits of $25,000 you might carry? That law did not need to be reversed; it needed some technical corrections.

It is quite apparent that you don’t know what you are doing on this either. I have been a licensed insurance agent since 1979 and how you and this legislative group just decided to rescind the law but merely maintain a requirement to have such basic limits is appalling.

By the way----this did not create one job! If this is all you can do is go along with everything your Republican Cronies tell you to do; you have lost not only your integrity but also the right to represent your constituents. Do yourself a favor, you are in way over your head; RESIGN!

Regarding synthetic Marijuana….I do not see a problem with your vote on that. And the Resolution was probably okay.

Why no Resolution for the Whitewater Warhawks? They won it all in their division and gained a national title. And, that business school is about as Republican as you can get. Reince Priebus is an alum from that school as well. What were you and the rest of your group thinking?

Lastly, where the hell are the jobs you were sent to create? All you and your team are doing is destroying jobs and the middle class and taking away First Amendment Rights, Civil Rights, and Human Rights from your constituents. What are you thinking?

If all you want is smoke blown up your backside stay the course and keep chumming with Conry and the Bliss Communications Folks. Lastly, the Koch Brothers don’t really care about you and neither do the voters other than those you fooled the first time around!

Prosser's Abusive Temper on Display

Republican civility standards or why we need to vote for justices who know how to act morally and ethically, by Kim Tschudy

A recent letter asking, "where's the civility" about the personal shots at Gov. Walker deserves an answer. If the Governor is really concerned about "civility" he wouldn't start the conversation by throwing a grenade on the table. You should start negotiations but sitting down with the stakeholders and negotiating with them. After all, public employees are responsible for delivering essential state services and the Governor as chief executive should want them on his team. An effective leader doesn't start by blaming his people for problems not of their making. But if your objective is to gain notoriety, throwing a grenade on the table will surely do it.

We need to look back to the 1990's when Ed Garvey ran against Republican U.S.  Senator Bob Kasten.  In a desperate and  successful attempt to smear Garvey, Kasten accused Garvey of swindling $500,000 from the NFL players union during the years when Garvey was representing the players union. The accusation was absolutely false and after the fact and winning the election on that false claim, Kasten finally apologized to Ed Garvey.

An August 22, 2001 Capital  Times headline stated with great hope, Senator Helms R. North Carolina announces retirement and hopefully the end of an era of attack dog politics. Republican attack dog politics only got worse.

In 1994 pro-choice Republican State Senator Barbara Lorman who had served very honorably in the Wisconsin Senate since 1980 had the audacity to vote with the democrats on a women's health issue bill. Lorman's vote so angered republicans that they went out shopping for a republican to run against Lorman in a primary which she lost in a rather negative campaign to Scott Fitzgerald.

Several years conservative republican Assemblyman Terry Musser voted with democrats on a women's health care issue and the republican party went bonkers over his vote. As his term was coming to an end, Musser decided that after two decades it was time to hang it up and go back home. Helping Musser make this decision was the way his own republican party treated him for doing the right thing.

Terry Musser was a really decent person who tried to be a pragmatic problem solver and not a party hack. Terry was one of those people with whom you could disagree with but you always remained friends who just happened to have different opinions.

Sometime after Musser left office the rest of the story came out. After his vote with the democrats someone in the republican party approached him with an, either leave the Assembly or we'll run a primary challenge against you threat. Musser was excellent on veterans issues and looked out for our veterans well being as might be expected of one who served two tours in Vietnam.

Two years ago during the Wisconsin Supreme Court election a sitting judge, Louis Butler came under attack, by republican Michael Gableman, with patently false ads about Butler. Those ads which were proven to be 100% false, or lets call it what it was, a blatant lie, Gableman won the election and shortly thereafter was brought up on charges from the regulatory group for lawyers. This dubious distinction set a new standard, a sitting Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice being brought up on ethics charges.

And you can bet that within the next few months we're going to see some pretty nasty primary campaigns aimed at republican Senator Dale Schultz and the four Assembly republicans who voted with the democrats recently.

This past fall when one of the four, newly elected republican State Representative, Travis Trannel, was running in the republican primary took horribly nasty and uncalled for very uncivil shots from his competition... the chairman of the Grant County Republican Party. You can bet that the minute Trannel reaches his recall date you know that the republicans are going to steal his lunch and make Trannel eat the bag it came in. And this from within his own political party.

It is incumbent upon all of us, republicans and democrats both to ensure that people like Trannel and Schultz get our support and thanks for having put good public policy above politics.

A week ago the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ran a very distressing article indicating that Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser screamed at Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson, you're a total bitch and I'm going to destroy you!" Imagine how Prosser and the republican party would react if Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson would have stood up in the Supreme Court Chamber and called Justice David Prosser,  "a little bastard!"

When the Governor gave his recent State of the State address the two dignitaries receiving the loudest applause were Mike Gableman and David Prosser. This does not speak well for Wisconsin.

The time has come to send David Prosser his pink slip by voting for Joanne Kloppenburg for Supreme Court Justice on April 5th. We have come to expect bad behavior from our legislature as former democrats Chuck Chvala and Brian Burke and republicans have so aptly shown. We expect true civility  from our highest court, not the behavior David Prosser has shown.

Will Corporations Ever Share in the Sacrifice?

"According to a recent report from the Institute for Wisconsin’s Future (IWF), the Badger State is losing over one billion dollars annually to the gap between what is legally owed by taxpayers and what is actually paid. The corporate income tax gap in Wisconsin is approximately $113 million."

Dear Heroes at Forward Janesville

Dear Heroes at Forward Janesville.

Heroes, I know you’re there. And, Janesville needs a hero. In fact, Janesville could use quite a few heroes. We really, really could. And, we need those heroes to WALK OUT ON WALKER at the Forward Janesville Annual Dinner on Tuesday, pick up a sign, and join the picket.

We would all love you. We really, really would!

Forward Janesville, Governor Walker does not represent the best interests of the business community, Janesville, Wisconsin, or you. Destroying the economy, lowering the standard of living, and destroying unions harms the very people that pay your bills. Your customers are your bosses. And, when they run out of money, “You’re fired!”

We all know how much courage it would take to WALK OUT ON WALKER. We all know that you are afraid it would be social suicide. Everyone knows how important social connections are in J’ville and the Rock. We all know the “rules of social engagement, social climbing, and business networking.” Business owners and professionals are standing on the sidewalk outside!

But, let’s be honest. You might have missed some vital lessons in life. Social climbing is for those who, well let’s be blunt, are not on top. Because if you were at the top, then honestly would you need to be climbing? If you have to worry a lot, then it really doesn’t matter. My mother taught me that. Hope I didn’t hurt your feelings.

And, this is a small city where conformity is important. But, Mother had something to say about that, too: “If everyone wore s@#$ on their heads, would you?” Well, you know what I think about dining with Walker, by now!

This is what Mother had to say about putting on airs: “This is a small town. People can guess to the penny what’s in your bank account. They know whether your parents own Shell Oil or if your dad was the town drunk.” Now you think I’m talking about you, don’t you?

So, Janesville needs some heroes to WALK OUT ON WALKER! We’ll have signs for you! We'll give you lots of hugs! You'll feel like a rock star!

10 Good Reasons Not to Stand Up and WALK OUT ON WALKER:

1. You like rubber chicken dinners
2. Your boss paid for your dinner
3. You are a conformist
4. You hate Wisconsin & want to economy to fail
5. You want global corporations to be in charge of your life & government
6. You are a moral coward
7. You watch Fox News, read National Review, & live in an intellectual box
8. You are a social climbing addict
9. You operate a business worth over a billion dollars.
10. You want your business to fail—so you can collect unemployment—because your customers are broke.

Sunday evening news round up (March 28, 2011)

***NEWS from the Wisconsin Capitol*** Recently they have started to ticket people for holding signs on the first floor level of the rotunda. There is word that law enforcement may be ordered to go farther and start arresting people. This is, yet another, completely illegal tactic being used to try to smother out the protests that are occurring in WI and is unconstitutional.

Outsourcing Our State's Laws with a Template

When you read AB 11 and then read the ALEC Template one can quickly see that the most Republicans, not all, could not have put this together without a playbook. A one size fits all template from a Koch think tank designed to destroy the integrity of a State and, in the end; the integrity of a once noble political party.

I encourage you to review AB11 and then review this toolkit. Remember...Walker keeps saying that the bill has to pass quickly so the "tools" can be implemented to gain the alleged savings. I ask..what is the true economic cost of the savings?

What Walker and Cronies do not tell you is that job creation, if any, will be minimum wage jobs unless you get appointed to a position like Senator Randy Hopper's girlfriend. Christian Right Evangelicals apparently condone a quid quo pro adultery behavior so long as it is for a Republican. At least Walker's new appointment of jobs designed to save the state money seems to work out this way with Hopper's situation.

And then, destroy teacher unions specifically to create Charter Schools and other Privatized Educational Systems to enable the Blackwater Type Systems, or other similiar types; to take over Public Education and then allow shifts of money from public to private schools. A balanced Charter and Public School System makes sense to me; but not with a Walker/ALEC approach. The Walker/ALEC approach is designed to make free education available, in my opinion for the wealthiest 2%, and a substandard educational public system for everyone else. Read the ALEC article on education and scruitinize any upcoming Educational Bills.

Bottom Line...How do you feel about the Outsourcing of everything we have as a State to the likes of the Koch Brothers. How much is your integrity worth? We know how much Randy Hopper's integrity is worth...

Dear Car Owners with a Driver's License

Dear Friends Who Drive Cars and Have a Driver's License and 20 Bucks to Spare:

I love you. I really do. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but for God's sake get out of your box!

Guess who is more likely to live in an inner city area, ride a bus, not have a driver's license, and not have twenty dollars to spare (or the time to ride the bus to the DMV and stand in line one to three hours)--a likely Democratic voter or a likely Republican voter? Riiiiggghhht!!!

Guess who tries to get polling places moved to the outskirts of poverty stricken areas-forcing poor people without personal transportation to have to travel farther by public transportation to vote--the Democratic Party or the Republican Party? Exactly! You guessed again!

And, guess who is most likely to be a Democratic voter, not to have a car, and not to have photo identification: a poor rural white or African American Democrat or a wealthy Republican voter? You are catching on so quickly--I am very proud of you!

Back in the Dark Ages when I was growing up, I knew elderly people who did not own cars and actually hitch-hiked for transportation. Yes, they did. They had virtually no cash. They had to have a ride to the polls.

Requiring photo identification is a means of voter suppression. It may be hard to imagine how or why here in the comfy small cities in the Midwest--but, that is the purpose.

There is very little "voter" fraud.

Now, if we want to talk about "voting" fraud, I'm still angry about Bush and Gore!

Vivian

It is unclear if this publishing by the Legislative Reference Bureau enacts the law without publication by the Secretary of State. What is clear is that Senator Fitzgerald's action ignored a temporary restraining order by a circuit court judge. Regardless of how Senator Fitzgerald feels, or what he thinks, there is no excuse for ignoring a court order and the judicial process."

The Conservative Right and Labor Rights

This is the kind of Wisconsin that many Extreme Right Conservatives seek knowingly or unknowingly. If history is taught through private companies this part of history won't make the
revisionist interpretations. As a life long student of history I can not imagine why our schools have decided not to include social, economic, labor, and the rise and fall and rise again of monopolies that Teddy Roosevelt broke up in the early 1900's.

Now that Texans are revising history to glorify Joe McCarthy at the expense of the Progressive Fighting Bob La Follette!

This is why we are fighting for bargaining rights! This is class warfare and until moderate Republicans get this the Independents, Democrats, and even Liberals will continue to have problems raising awareness. So..stay the course and RECALL those who would defy our First Amendment Rights, Civil Rights, Bargaining Rights, and Human Rights!

Professionals Are Working People, Too!

To My Dear Professional & Managerial Friends:

I love you, I really do.

I just need to remind you that efforts on behalf of professionals and business people to separate themselves from working people (and the middle class to separate themselves from the "working" class) are just insufferable.

Hope I didn't hurt your feelings.

Now, it is more important than ever to remind doctors, lawyers, professors, business managers, and all people who wear suits that they are just working people.

If you earn a living, you are a working person.

If you are on the board of directors of General Electric, go hunting with Dick Cheney, socialize with Saudi princes, and get your allowance from a trust fund, you are NOT a working person.

Thinking of the cost of health care might help you decide how to categorize yourself:

When I first started working on a trauma unit at UW-Hospitals in 1979, I calculated that the most it could cost to pay for health care in a worst case scenario was $I MILLION/YEAR. Then, I raced out and bought more of every form of insurance available--back when it was still available to me. At that time, there were medicines that cost $1,000/pop.

The amount of money one would have to have invested to earn $1 MILLION/YEAR in 1979 was about $10 million. So, that is what I defined as independently wealthy--way back then.

Now, I define as "rich" someone who can buy entrance into Harvard or an elite university for h/er child. If you cannot do that, you are not truly rich or powerful. You are a working person.

If you cannot pay for your own health care no matter what eventuality--the worst case scenario of cancer treatment or a high level spinal cord injury with weeks of trauma care and years of 24 hour/day ventilator care--then you are not wealthy. You are a working person.

In my entire life, I have only known one family that will never have to work and whose descendants will never have to work.

For working people to snipe about GM employees (as they have done for decades) and to now snipe about the vast wealth of...school teachers(!?!) as they are now doing is bizarre to me.

The Republican Party does not represent the best interests of the business community. They represent the best interests of Gigantic Corporations Who Have More Money and Power Than God.

The Democratic Party represents the best interests of the business community and working people including small business owners, doctors, lawyers, and People Who Cannot Buy Their Children Entry into Harvard or Other Elite Schools.

Hope this doesn't cause any identity crisis.

Your friend,
Vivian

Rove still a "busy bee"...

"Per Open Secrets, American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS spent a combined $39 million on outside expenditures during the 2010 election. The top union donor, the SEIU, contributed $17 million. The top four conservative outside groups outspent the top four unions $97 million to $40 million. For more, check out our reporting on the rise of dark money groups."

Liar, liar...

THE FACTS
"Walker said 98 percent of small businesses "will be eligible" for job-creating tax relief under his emergency plan to jump-start the lagging Wisconsin economy. There are that many businesses under the $500,000 threshold -- but that’s just the beginning of the story.
They may all be eligible to apply, but many won’t qualify for a tax credit of any significant size. And the number gets substantially reduced because unprofitable businesses won’t see a credit until they turn around. Even business advocates don’t contend it would help recipients create jobs, as Walker claims."
