Protest Page of the Day: Tea Party Lies, and Fear Mongering Hope Everybody

Tea Party Lies, and Fear Mongering Hope EverybodyToday's Defend Wisconsin News Round Up Protest Page Of The Day may strike some as inappropriate, but it is a protest page nonetheless.  Tea Party Lies, and Fear Mongering Hope Everybody only has 4 people who admit to "liking" it but nonetheless it stands out among other Protest inspired anti-protest pages and deserves to be highlighted in some way.  Making it Protest Page Of The Day is one way to do that.

In spite of its small number of admitted followers, Tea Party Lies... is busy posting all over Facebook and its "likes" can be found under the posts of many real Facebook protest pages.  What's especially striking about Tea Party Lies..., is that many of these other anti-protest pages, such as "This post is even more ignorant than their last one" , "This is what a Narcissist looks like", and "My pet goldfish has more rational thoughts than this person", start their existence by having Tea Party Lies "liking" them.  With a nod for this mark of "approval" as well as to bring more sunshine to Troll Party, Tea Party Lies, and Fear mongering Hope Everybody is Defend Wisconsin Round Up Protest Page Of The Day.  We just don't say that you should "like" it.

Wisconsin DNR to become Enterprise Agency: EMPLOYEE MEMO

According to source, the following memo was sent to Wisconsin DNR employees last night, 8/17/2011 at 9 pm

Enterprise Agency Pilot – 2011-13
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources

The creation of DNR as a two-year pilot Enterprise Agency by Memorandum of Agreement between the Wisconsin departments of Administration and Natural Resources is to test the hypothesis: Given increased operating flexibility, the DNR will be able to produce better outcomes for its customers at less cost than under the standard bureaucratic system.

Negotiated by DOA Secretary Mike Huebsch and DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp, DNR will test elements of the structure as a pilot.  If benchmarks are not met, the agreement will end.

Key Benefits of the Agreement:  By gaining efficiencies and cost-savings enabled by the Agreement and reinvesting those fiscal and staff resources, the following benefits will accrue:
Ø  Improved Customer Service by…
·        Increasing counter service;
·        Improving the Department’s web-site;
·        Providing customer service training for all staff;
·        Identifying customer service performance expectations in all DNR staff evaluations.

Ø  Improved Cost-Effectiveness by…
·        Focusing on highest priority work and eliminating non-essential work;
·        Reducing over-head and operational costs; and
·        Increasing revenues.

Ø  Improved Management Systems to ensure…
·        Integrated natural resource decision-making;
·        Excellence in internal and external communications;
·        Wisest use of information technology to assist in streamlined delivery of services; and
·        Measurement of progress in meeting goals in all major programmatic areas.

Ø  Improved accountability by implementing…
·        Line authority;
·        Consistent principals for all environmental programs;
·        Uniform performance expectations for staff and supervisors; and
·        Bi -annual program audits.

Specific Elements of the Agreement:
Ø  Fleet Management – DNR is delegated authority to manage travel and fleet operations
Ø  Facilities Management – DNR is delegated authority to manage repair and construction of certain facilities

Broad Measurables of the Agreement:
Ø  Operating Budgets – Operating costs will be reduced by 2.5% over 2010 base year for facilities management, rent, travel, and other basic operations.
Ø  Customer Service – Over-the-counter customer service will be increased by 40% over 2010 base year.
Ø  Reduced Permitting Times – Through process improvement and other measures, average permit issuance times for major air and water permits will be reduced a minimum of 5% over 2010 levels, with a goal of achieving a 10% reduction.
Ø  Customer Satisfaction – Customer service feedback for selected services and critical business functions will be bench-marked and improvement goals established in first year, and progress measured in the second year of the Agreement.
Ø  Creation of an Office of Business Support and Sustainability to advance enterprise principles and to create industry sector expertise and a point of contact for proposed projects.

Fleet Management Specifics: Overall fleet costs would be lowered and DNR customer service would be enhanced as a result through financially based decisions based on usage and financial history, right sizing the number and type of fleet vehicles and mileage costs; providing vehicles with features specific to staff needs; sharing vehicles with other agencies and local units of government; reducing the need for use of vehicle rentals and personal miles. The Agreement establishes a vehicle procurement plan with a maximum of $3.5 million for each year of the 2011-13 biennium.  This would yield a savings in capital expenditures (vehicle purchases and operational costs) of $4.7 million for FY12 and an additional $830,000 in FY13 over four-year average costs under the current system.

Facilities Management Specifics: Overall fiscal and staff costs for both DOA and DNR would be reduced by minimizing duplicative over-sight, improving timeliness, and reducing design and construction costs. For the 2011-13 Biennium, facilities management costs would be reduced by more than $1,125,000 million in the 2011-13 biennium.  Implemented over a 10-year cycle, the Agreement would generate an estimated $5,625,000 million on DNR facilities design and construction costs that could be reinvested in additional projects.  The Agreement delegates to DNR the authority to independently perform project management activities including: Project Management, Design, Bidding, Contracting and Construction Oversight. Under the agreement, DNR is committed to bring facilities projects – from park and forest structures and campgrounds to dikes, dams and boat landings -- in at or under budget and within schedule, and public users would have a higher degree of satisfaction with DNR recreational facilities.  DOA would continue oversight of very complex building projects.

Welcome to Troll Party

Ever wonder where the far right internet activists - known for their aggressive and mean-spirited behavior on liberal sites as the "trolls" - go to socialize?  After all, they like to hang out with like-minded individuals as well.  There's just not as many of them and the ones there keep busy putting together Facebook pages with wishfully witty names and 0 "likes".

Here is an example of a page I found looking through "likes" on my own profile.   One post was liked by a user with an interesting name: Tea Party Lies, and Fear Mongering Hope Everybody.  Curious, I checked it out and sure enough, the page had exactly 0 "likes".  The man in the profile picture seemed to speak of flag, revolution and Tea.  Page itself had no original posts, only references to comments it left elsewhere and other pages it liked.  Evidently in the very brief time since inception, Tea Party Lies... amassed a large number of Facebook pages it "liked".  These include liberal pages such as WEACRecall Scott Walker Planned Recall Committee,  and of course Defend Wisconsin News Round Up.  The rest includes pages set up with exclusive goal of taking down these other liberal pages.  This list is long and not particularly imaginative, including:

The Many "Moms" of Segway Jeremy Ryan
Slade Wilson1
We are sick and tired of hearing about the Madison Wisconsin protests.
This post is even more ignorant than their last one.

And yes, there are more...

There were a couple of interesting exception to this list is, namely Stop telling me what democracy looks like, We live in a Republic and Walker Backers Watching Walker Stalkers,  Clearly conservative sites, these are the only sites on the list that provides actual content and engage in conversations.  To be fair, the exact role of these pages in this coordinated effort is hard to place.  Its involvement could range anywhere from informational to being an actual leader of the group.

However, when looking back at the comment left by Walker Backers... admin at Defend Wisconsin News...only yesterday referring to the FB ban placed on Defend Wisconsin News..., it is hard to imagine that Walker Backers has no knowledge of these actions when he or she wrote:

"if this is a general FB censorship issue I will line up right behind you to protest it. As Voltaire once proclaimed "I might not believe a word you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it".  Considering the number of these right wing Facebook pages with a handful of likes (if any), it is hard to imagine that Walker Backers would be unaware of their existence or desired impact.

There was one page on the list that boasted a sufficiently spiteful title, had followers and provided content - a rare combination.  Called I don't wanna work, I wanna create FB pages all day like Susan Berna., its description stated that "Since Susan likes creating pages about us, I have decided to create one for her."
Comments compete in humor that is beyond offensive to anyone with marginal amount of respect for women and other people in general.  Example:  "Here is another pig that craves attention. Imagine the bestiality that Berna could have with this guy!" referring to a female running a popular liberal Facebook page.

Not surprisingly, there is Facebook group that brings together these characters, who prefer to use pictures of Hollywood stars like Paul Newman (liberal supporter of Ned Lamont) and James Garner (lifelong Democrat).  Called  Knot My Wisconsin, the group page describes itself this way: "This is a debate group about the future of Wisconsin. It is not a pro union or anti union page...except for the second part,which it actually is. You will NOT be banned for debating...You will NOT get banned for getting mad. You WILL get banned if you are simply being an asshole. Or if your name is Aaron."  Comments include such gems by someone I just recently banned from Defend Wisconsin News... : "I was just looking at some postings from Barbara With. That women is bat shit crazy. She once to Andy and I that she was turning us into the FBI."  Thankfully, this group boasts only 50 members though doubtless, there are others.

To say that over the last 6 months, the amount of political vitriol related to Wisconsin politics has been on the increase, would be an understatement. Wisconsin has the lowest number of undecideds about our Governor than any other state and our struggle is attracting nationwide attention.  This means that there will be those on both sides that are passionate and outspoken about their point of view.  This Is What Democracy Looks Like.  However, nobody should cross the line into malicious behavior, engaging in actions that result in Facebook bans.

To those who keep reading and posting news, especially Facebook mass communication sites, remember that if you want something done - you got to do it yourself.  In the face of this attack, perpetrated with Facebook's silent blessing, we need to respond by sharing things using the channels we have available and we need to keep speaking up about this abuse of a valuable social network.

And to those trying to silence free speech: rest assured you will fail.

Share Liberally!

Protest Page of the Day: Scott Walker Is a Douchebag

Today's Defend Wisconsin News Round Up Protest Page Of The Day goes to the site with possibly the most offensive name highlighted up until now: Scott Walker Is a Douchebag.  Sporting a cool, 35, 784 followers at press time, Scott Walker Is... offers this in its information section:
Scott Walker Is a Douchebag
Founded - Nov. 2010 - thereby placing beginning 3 months before the protests began.  In its "about" section, Scott Walker Is... states that "Nice work killing jobs, disenfranchising citizens and other assholic activities."  Its "description" is straight and to the point: Scott Walker is an idiot and has no business leading anything.  Ever."  Its "mission" is somewhat less clear until the end: "To see an ened to the Scott Walker douchebag-political complex.  To resist, ridicule and recall!"  Looking at Scott Walker Is... selection of photographs, its clear that ridiculing is definitely afoot.

Scott Walker Is... features a collection of political satire and imagery ridiculing Scott Walker, Koch Brothers, Paul Ryan and others so vast that you will not be able to look through all of them in one sitting.  Guaranteed.  Especially if you stop and think about each one.

An active member of posting community, Scott Walker Is... provides links to stories which spotlight politics and protests in Wisconsin.  That means that it stays laser focused on issues relevant to Wisconsin such as labor relations, recalls and of course, Scott Walker.  For that focus and energy, Scott Walker Is a Douchebag is today's Defend Wisconsin News Round Up Protest Page Of The Day.

Via Tony Harmon: the wisconsin recall, defend wisconsin news roundup, republican bigotry hate fear lies and distortion, amandalyn has had enough, hippie liberal momma, euphorics concepts photography, i demand to see michelle bachmann's diploma, our fathers' voice, dear republicans fuck you, and our founding fathers' vision also multiple animal rights groups, personal sites and haven't confirmed this yet but heard whiskey and the morning after got hit.

Republican Bigotry page has 10,822 followers and I'm voting for Barack Obama in 2012 has 4,947 followers.  These are no small players to disable.

The following information was shared earlier with Defend Wisconsin News Round Up with author asking not to be named:

"I do not think the group that I belong to, it is the reason for my ban. I repost to other pages. A day or two prior to my ban, I was posting to Holperin, Wirch, and Simac pages. My repost to the Simac page was liked by the following pages:
Congratulation You Showed Everyone You're an Idiot
Wisconsin taxpayers say its time for you to STFU
I "like" stupid posts by ingorant liberal like this
( this page likes many liberal pages: Defend Wis, Sandy Pasch for Sen, United Wis, Recall Scott Walker, AFSCME, Protect Wis Families, Heroic Wis 14, Russ Feingold, Wis AFL-CIO, Recall Scott Walker Planned recall com., Lena Taylor, Recall Gov Walker.)

Other posts against Simac were liked by the above plus:
Chances are you live a pathetic life to be trolling fan pages
Congratulations you just showed everyone you're an idiot
Good job you just won the Derp award
This post was liked because you're a trolling idiot
Hey liberal how about a nice glass of STFU
Its time for you to leave the politics to the grownups you're clueless

These pages were made just to leave "likes" they have maybe one fan.(makes it hard to troll the page to read their wall because I would only be the second fan) I have seen them other places but never thought about it. The key page here must be.... I like stupid posts..... It is the only fan for some of theses other pages. My guess is that some or all of these page are related. So that is at least 9 different pages they can make a complaint from so a FB page is banned from posting for 15 days. Your pages are reposted on many of the other pages that it has "Liked"."

So now we know better how this attack works.  We still do not have verifiable information of who coordinates these efforts.

Also, to give you a better idea of what this ban does, here's what I can and can not do:

Able:

Post on all pages I administer
Share any information on my pages

Not able to:

Share any posts on any group page, either as Defend Wisconsin News Round Up or as myself, personally.
Make comments on other group pages.

Thank you everyone for your support.

To Voters In State Senate Districts 12 and 22 - You Matter More Than You Think

To Voters in State Senate Districts 12 and 22:

You matter more than you think.

On Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to reject calls for recall of Senators Holperin and Wirch.  You may feel that your vote is important because Senators Holperin and Wirch are good people and deserve to defeat recalls.  All true.  But election on Tuesday is about more than these two men.  And it is not as much about their challengers as it is about what these challengers stand for.

These days we are deciding serious questions.  Do we want to disband our social services or do we want to provide safety net and valuable services going forward, all with our tax dollars?  Do we turn our laws to corporations or will we remain the land of opportunity many not just a few?  Do we talk about the shared sacrifice or do we practice it?

These are not questions that matter only in districts 12 and 22 or Wisconsin.  Where our country goes from here and what will be our legacy to our children are universal questions. Personal freedoms and the ability for people to bargain collectively, which many took for granted, are in retreat and if not reversed will be in real jeopardy.

The nation and the world are watching to see what we do in Wisconsin for a reason. Before basic tenants of the social contract are restored, recalls need to be rejected and attack on Wisconsin needs to be stopped.  Voters of Districts 12 and 22, you can do that.  By casting your vote on Tuesday for Senators Holperin and Wirch, you will do your part.  Part which no one else can.

Remember, Tuesday recalls are not about Senators themselves because all Senators did the same thing - they stood together and left Wisconsin in protest.  That back bone many say is missing in the Democratic Party?   they showed it. There is a reason Wisconsin Democratic State Senators became known as the Heroic 14.

These recalls highlight the fact that Republicans are not missing an opportunity to take a seat or two back after the embarrassing losses they suffered last Tuesday.  Recalls also highlight the fact that only three Senators - Hansen, Holperin and Wirch became subjects of orchestrated campaigns.  Nowhere else did these attempts to recall elected officials for standing up and walking out of the room when Governor refused to negotiate or even discuss Budget Repair Bill, succeed.  And on Tuesday voters of these districts will determine where Wisconsin goes from here.

If the balance of power in the senate remains as it stands now, there is hope that with Senators Cullen and Schultz this plane can somehow come out of the nosedive that we are in.  Latest polls indicate that Senator Holperin has a substantial lead over his challenger, which is encouraging.  But celebration will take place on Tuesday night, after you vote to give Wisconsin and country a chance to make things right.  Vote for Holperin and Wirch on Tuesday.
