Introducing: Hero and Villain of the Week

Here at Defend Wisconsin News Round Up, the search is always on to find new ways to recognize those who are moving the ball forward for all of us.  At the same time, its important to shine the light on those who are climbing onto the stage and have no business being here.  And thus, today brings a new feature to Defend Wisconsin News Round Up... Introducing... (drum roll please)

Hero and Villain of the Week!
First comes our Villain of the Week:  The list of eligible candidates was long, and included everyone from Governor Scott Walker and on down.  Everyone involved with redistricting, it could be claimed, showed their villainous side.  But one man, stood high above the crowd and did several things to separate him from the runners up.  After all, it's not everyday that a State Senate candidate will be denying smoking "rocks", while fighting allegations of wife beating and child abuse.  And that is why, David VanderLeest is our Defend Wisconsin News Round Up Villain of the Week!  Congratulations, David!

And just because it's impossible to resist... ‪"VanderLeest King"

And now, Hero of the Week.  This list is long as well.  It was tempting to give this award to everyone who came to the many protests that took place all across our great state this past week.  This crisis created and continues to create a lot of heroes.  But in every comparison, there is one person that makes an extra step to shine brighter than the rest.

On the board since spring 2010, and particularly over the past several months, Dane County Supervisor Melissa Sargent made her stand several times, from being fined $205 for Capitol protest sign held by her young sons, to writing a letter asking Justice Prosser to take a leave of absence during the investigation and if found guilty to resign.  But Melissa Sargent earned our Hero of the Week award because in spite of the pressure put on her by many, including Vicki McKenna of WIBA, Melissa continues to persevere and this week, she spoke at the Prosser Must Go Rally 7-12-11.  See her speech starts at 1:30 into the video.

For keeping the pressure on, and for doing the right thing, Dane County Supervisor Melissa Sargent is Defend Wisconsin News Round Up Hero of the Week!  Congratulations, Melissa!
