What to take away from last night

Last night six districts, that are traditionally red, voted in recall elections. In order to turn the State Senate Democrats needed to flip three of them. They only turned two. What we need to take away from this is not that the Democrats came up short but that firmly red districts tilted blue. Losing these races by as small of margins that they did shows that the agenda held by Republicans is starting to wear on conservatives. Democrats must look to build on this as we move to the 2012 elections which should include a recall election for Governor Walker.

Wisconsin will be a huge battleground next year and both sides are energized and the money is flowing heavily. To use a quote from the late liberal lion Ted Kennedy: "the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die." As long as the disparity between those with the most and the rest of us continues to grow we must not lose sight of the American dream and fight for a chance at it.

  1. I like the word should, meaning it probably isn't going to happen. 3 of our GOP Senators increased their winning percentage over 2008. Good luck.

  2. You bring everything you have, out of state money and protesters, corporate interests, union propaganda, turmoil, riots, and destruction of state property, you bring all of it.. Because we are ready and willing to defend our state much more than you are. You are not the majority and you will never intimidate us, we will stand in defiance of your socialist tyranny.. See ya on the streets.

  3. Kapanke's district was never a red district. Hopper's was filled with your goons. You do not scare us

  4. Wait until next Tuesday and you lose the two seats you just gained.

  5. If you think that our state is even REMOTELY interested in going back to the days of Doyle with massive deficits, real cuts to education, raiding money from protected funds, layoffs, and jobs moving out of state - you are BADLY mistaken. Unions have siphoned money from our communities and our kids for far too long. You will NEVER get Walker, and other states will be following suit. Please please stop harassing our state.

  6. Wow, Republicans really are crazy! You know what your problem is, Republicans... You run on money, not policy. You let your money run your mouths and your actions. It's disgusting, actually. We dems work for everything we have.

Oh, and for the person who says, "You will NEVER get walker, and other states will be following suit." YOUR governor (because he certainly isn't mine) is polling at a 37% approval rating, which is one of the four lowest in the country. I hope you enjoy YOUR governor while you can, and I hope the door doesn't hit him on the ass on his way out.

  7. The unions are going the way of Blockbuster video - not really relevant anymore. Union members are coming off looking like babies because they have to pay a few % into their pension - love it! I'm a democrat but can't help but love what happened - this was one republican led policy that made total sense. I don't agree with all their policies, bills, or ideas but in my heart of hearts it was hard to argue with this one. When the dems ran away to IL that was really bad, and then holding recall elections because we didn't like one vote? Reserve those for huge scandals. With the redistricting coming up and 2012 looking like a huge GOP year I think it will be a tough decade for us Dems, but we'll get another chance perhaps in a decade, it always goes back and forth...
